I just want a planet to be, like, the Texas Planet in a series, and then a ninja shows up, Japanese and everything. And Texas Planet person is like, "Y'all didn't know we have ninja? They're on the other continent."

And then they hang out and talk '[planet name] pride' all the time, the universities and sports teams and all that stuff.

Ok, so I just read all four of the books in the Skylark of Space series by EE 'Doc' Smith, one of the first space operas (as in, it's only in contention with *another* of Smith's works, it just depends on whether one counts it's early material).

I'm watching a Who marathon (mostly Matt Smith stuff) on BBC US and...

You know, this is a pretty fun darn show! Not perfect, but I hadn't seen much of this era and I'm enjoying lots of it. The Ponds, River... just getting onto the Clara stuff.

I recently finished The Baba Yaga by Una McCormack and Eric Brown, which takes place in Brown's 'Weird Space' universe. I'd never read any of the two prior ones in the series which were Brown only, but reviews said that was fine, and I was interested in picking up something in a female writer so I dove right in ( Read more... )

In my last dream, I was the member of a small human colony in a giant constructed place of some kind, building in all directions (if you've read the manga Blame!, somewhat like that, though not as vast-seeming), but very colorful, some bits almost like a playground.
